Laura Marín Samper obtained a B.Sc. (with Honours) in Marine Biology with Biodiversity and Conservation at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in Cambridge, UK, and graduated with distinction from an M.Sc. in Marine Sciences at Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) on O’ahu, Hawai’i, where she specialized in modelling and simulation, and ecosystem dynamics. She then got involved in endangered species rescue and monitoring by working for Hawai'i Marine Animal Response (HMAR) in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She subsequently worked at the Laboratory for Marine Biological Chemistry at HPU where she conducted studies on pharmacokinetics and drug properties of soft coral metabolites and was part of a research expedition to Ni’ihau, Hawai’i, in support of a Texas A&M University project. 


Currently, she is a Ph.D. on Oceanography and Global Change candidate, at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), under the supervision of Dr. Javier Aristegui from the Biological Oceanography Group (GOB), and of Dr. Ulf Riebesell from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. Her doctoral research project is part of the OceanNETs European project, and it focuses on the study of the potential impacts of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) on primary production, phytoplankton community structure and on the biogeochemical fluxes they regulate, using a mesocosm approach.
